Sunday Sermon Preview: Malachi 2:1-9

May 5, 2012

The call to Christ is a call to serve His Kingdom through the local church, and I am thankful for many at Big Stevens Creek who serve faithfully every single week in a variety of ways. We have people who minister to children, prepare meals, deliver meals, teach Sunday School classes, serve as ushers, wrestle in prayer, serve in the community, serve in the schools, serve at rescue missions, and the list goes on and on. We have a congregation full of servants.

In Malachi 2, God is still addressing the priests, and he is specifically addressing the way they serve. The priests served faithfully. Everyday they served in the temple, offering sacrifices on behalf of the people. However, while they served faithfully, they served with the wrong motivation. Their service was apathetic at best, and God was not honored by the way they served. In fact, the way they served was a disgrace to God. I wonder if our service honors the Lord. Faithful service honors God only when it is does with the right motivation. So, what kind of service honors God and what kind of service brings disgrace to the great name of God? Come tomorrow morning as we dive back into the Book of Malachi. Prepare for worship today by praying for what will transpire tomorrow as we worship as a body of believers, and invite a friend to come with you to worship.
